Enforcing Patent Rights:

Co-lead counsel for International Rectifier in International Rectifier v. Samsung Electronic Co., Ltd. (C.D. Cal. 1998), in which IR negotiated a multi-million dollar settlement after obtaining a preliminary injunction enjoining importation or sale of the accused product line.

Co-lead trial counsel for International Rectifier in International Rectifier v. SGS-Thomson Microelectronics, 38 USPQ2d 1038 (C.D. Cal. 1994) (aff’d without opinion by the Federal Circuit), in which IR obtained a multi-million dollar judgment for ST’s breach of a patent license agreement.

Co-lead trial counsel for International Rectifier in SGS-Thomson Microelectronics v. International Rectifier (C.D. Cal. 1995) in Markman hearing to resolve claim-interpretation issues relating to ST’s patent.

Co-lead counsel for International Rectifier in a variety of other patent actions resulting in substantial royalty-bearing licenses for the client.

Co-lead counsel for International Rectifier in Power MOSFET Technology v. Siemens et al., (E.D.Tex 2000), in which plaintiff asserted a patent alleged to cover IR’s "CoolMOS" devices, but voluntarily dismissed the action as to our client after Markman briefs were filed.

Counsel for IBM in IBM v. Conner Peipherals (N.D.Cal. settled in 1995), which involved 18 disk-drive patents.

Counsel for AMD in Cypress Semiconductor v. AMD (D. Minn. 1996) involving Programmable Logic Array patents.

Co-counsel for Sun Microsystems in preparation of patent applications related to software and e-commerce.

Enforcing Copyrights and Trademarks:

Lead counsel for copyright holder in Les Films Alain Sarde v. Arrow Releasing (C.D. Cal. 1998), in which the copyright holder regained the rights to distribute the film Ponette after a breach of the distribution agreement.

Counsel for Ty, Inc. in enforcing copyrights and trademarks with respect to "Beanie Babies."

Counsel for Le Studio Canal+ in a variety of disputes over rights to film libraries.

Lead appellate counsel for Ananda in Self Realization fellowship Church v. Ananda Church of Self-Realization, 206 F.3d 1322 (9th Cir. 2000) (copyright dispute between rival churches over the writings and recordings of their common founder).

Other Cases:

Lead trial counsel for plaintiff in Wong v. University Associates, Orange County Superior Court, a breach of contract action in which our client prevailed after a 30-day jury trial.

Lead appellate counsel in Nippon Miniature Bearings v. U.S. Customs Service,_F.3d_(9th Cir. 2000) (challenge to legality of customs seizures of ball bearings).

Lead counsel in Anacomp v. Hanny Magnetics (N.D. Cal. 1998), a breach of contract action in which summary judgment was obtained for our client at the close of discovery.

Appellate counsel for Bank of America in Kruse v. Bank of America, 202 Cal.App. 3d 38 (1988), reversing $26-million judgment against bank based on various fraud and "lender liability" theories.
