HON. DELBERT E. WONG (Ret.)

Judge Delbert E. Wong served as Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1961-1982, including five years in the Appellate Department. Judge Wong was also senior judge in the 206 judge court. He was Justice pro tem of the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, 1980, and Judge of the Los Angeles Municipal Court, 1959-1961.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALTIES

As an arbitrator and mediator, Judge Wong specializes in construction defect, personal injury, contracts, toxic tort and employment law matters.

Judge Wong’s experience also includes:

  • Served for 4 years in the government legislative branch as Deputy Legislative Counsel for the State Senate and Assembly; Served 8 years in the executive branch as Deputy Attorney General.
  • In 1986, appointed by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Airports to conduct extensive investigations into allegations of racial discrimination within the Los Angeles Airport Police Bureau.
  • In 1987, appointed as chairperson of the Asian Pacific American Focus Program of the National Conference of Christians and Jews to combat the rise in violence against Asian Americans.
  • In 1989, appointed by Mayor Tom Bradley to the seven member Commission to Draft an Ethics Code for the Los Angeles City Government, known as the Ethics Commission. The work led to the adoption of an ethics code by the voters of the City of Los Angeles.
  • In 1994, appointed as the Special Master in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
  • In 1996, served as settlement judge and discovery referee in a case in which the County of Los Angeles agreed to pay the plaintiff $2.5 million for injuries sustained as a result of his incarceration in the county jail.

Judge Wong attended and conducted seminars and workshops offered by the Los Angeles Superior Court and the California Judges Association. He also attended the National College of State Trial Judges at the University of Pennsylvania.
